Store Cupboard Challenge Week Four

Store Cupboard Challenge Introduction

We had really started to run out of ideas for meals that required no oven and were really stressing about not having one. Thankfully the landlord eventually sorted out the issue, we now have a new oven though this still took until Friday afternoon, but at least we have an oven again!

Our essentials bill for this week has come to £19 mainly a lot of fruit and veg as it is something that doesn't need the oven.

These are the evening meals we have eaten since Saturday 7th Nov:

  • Homemade chicken chow mein stir fry
  • Steak hache & halogen chips (do not try this one at home – it just didn't work well)
  • Stovetop pizza
  • Chicken & Chorizo Paella
  • Belly pork and mash
  • Chicken with potato & chorizo cakes
  • Toad in the Hole (finally oven food again!)

The stovetop pizza was something we had never heard of until this week and is definitely going into our list of favorite meals now. It was not only tasty but incredibly easy to make. I shall be creating a recipe soon.

Is there any meals or foods you have tried to make without using the usual way to cook?

Ooh I’d love a recipe for chicken chow mein. Every now and then we have a “rachotto” basically I cook a bit of rice & throw in tinned/frozen veg a bit of leftover meat few stock cubes & basically anything that needs using up.

We have a breville halo fryer that cooks amazing chips. Mine were a disaster in the halogen too lol. It was more like mash by the time I got them out haha x

Ooo thanks for the blog post idea with the chow mein, I am definately going to have to get one up for you 😉
Well at least someone else seems to have had the same issues we did with halogen chips haha
Rachotto sounds nice, I can’t recall if I have made it before or not, going to have to remember to fit it onto the next meal plan.
