Nearly all of us nowadays own some form of smartphone and many of us are also snowed under with receipts. Why not put that smartphone to work and earn money through snapping some photos of your receipts via Shoppix. I shall be giving you all an app review of Shoppix, a smartphone app that allows you to make money from your receipts.
What is Shoppix and how does it work?
Seriously how many receipts just pile up in your day to day life? We will all receive them and most likely throw them into the bin. Shoppix gives you the ability to earn from those receipts that you will otherwise just throw into the bin.
Shoppix uses Tokens as it's currency. You will receive them for uploading receipts to Shoppix, which is as simple as allowing the app access to you phone's camera and taking a clear photo of the receipt. You will get a couple of questions to answer, over in just a couple of taps. The receipt will then be uploaded, verified and you will be awarded with some tokens.
These tokens can be exchanged for cash to your PayPal account or a gift-card for Amazon, iTunes or Love2Shop.
Bonuses in Shoppix
Shoppix gives you extra ways in which to earn extra tokens.
If you love buying scratchcards then you love that you will be able to earn electronic scratchcards. Personally they are just as much fun as regular scratchcards.
Scratchcards are awarded for completing surveys and uploading receipts each consecutive week. As a bonus each scratchcard, winning or losing, will be entered into a weekly prize draw in which much bigger and exciting prizes can be won.
There are also quick surveys in which you can choose to do for tokens and scratchcards. These could be the survey of the week, an event or triggered by certain receipts.
You can also invite some of your friends or family to join via your referral code but you will only be rewarded for the first 8 that sign up and complete their profile and upload their first receipt. I would love it you entered my code, which is 2QJJDSBS for an extra 200 token.
What receipts can I upload?
Now I bet you are thinking what receipts are they after then? The answer is simple, they are after nearly every kind of official receipt that you will receive from a store within the UK and even abroad! Big chains or smaller stores, as long as the receipt is clear and understandable, with the stores name, purchases, date & transaction total on the receipt.
The receipt will have to have been from within the last 7 days, which is very important to remember.
Any receipts that have been rejected will also give you the reason for rejection and you will be able to see the photo you took so you are not scratching your head thinking which receipt is it! You can also challenge it if you disagree that it was rejected.
What do Shoppix do with your receipts?
What is so interesting about you receipts that Shoppix want to give you cash or gift-cards for them?
Shoppix are a market research company that works with consumer goods brands. The data that is collected from the receipts is summarized into market research reports for the brands who purchase the information. No personal information is sold, that is kept anonymous and is never sold to third parties so you don't have to worry on that front.
Is it worth it?
In my opinion, yes!
It takes literally less than a minute to snap a photo of a receipt and to answer the questions. My wife and I have even snapped them off in the car after leaving the supermarket, though I don't think you will have to go that far. You are then able to easily build a pot up to receive money or a gift card. When I combine this with our reduction shelf raids or our reselling then I can have some pretty awesome coin and spin intakes after a restocking trip – to find out more about reselling then please read An introduction to reselling.
To earn extra then you can also use other apps such as Receipt Hog, which you might as well do since you will already have your phone out and a pile of receipts right?
