We all need car insurance and mine was due to be renewed in mid April but when I looked at the price my old insurer had stated to renew my policy I was shocked, it would cost me £443.23! I was definitely not happy with paying this amount. And so I ran to my computer with the speed of a cheetah whilst wearing roller-skates!
Cashback Websites
The first place I headed to was my cashback websites as many of the comparison sites that you can use are on these sites and you can earn money back through them. I would highly recommend that you have an account with sites like Quidco and Topcashback for the simple reason that you can earn money back from things that you buy online. These do change so coming back at a later date might allow you to make some money back.
I ended up getting £1.95 just for getting a quote from confused.com via going to Quidco first.
Cashback websites like Quidco and Topcashback work on a simple principle when you use them. By having an account and searching for the company that you want to visit or use, and then using their link. This link earns the site money if you buy anything during that visit, which they will pass a percentage along to you. The amounts will vary and change often for some sites so it is always worth checking to see if they are still running one or even if the amount has changed.
It is always helpful to clear your cookies just before doing a transaction via a cashback site, as they use cookies to trace your transaction. By clearing the cookies you make it easier and quicker to follow the transaction.
Comparison Sites
There is often no time to get quotes from each and every insurance place, but also why would you want to since comparison sites can do a lot of the leg work for you.
After making sure to visit via a cashback site, confused and comparethemarket was the goal I had set for myself. I had insured my car the year before via confused and as such I wanted to get a fresh quote from them. Since I had used them before I could just log in to see my details from the year before and just make a few alterations. In under 5 minutes I had been given a quote for £207.08 on my car insurance for the year.
Although £207.08 was an amazing price I didn't want to just jump with that so I wanted to check first on comparethemarket and as with confused it had all my details from the year before, which just needed a slight alteration. I was given a quote for £219.46 from the same insurance company that confused said for £207.08, which would make going via confused the cheaper option. However I also wanted to take in the other option that comparethemarket gave me, which was a free toy and 2 for 1 cinema tickets for the year.
At the time of renewing my car insurance, Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice had been released. As such comparethemarket was doing limited edition meerkat toys of Alexsandr dressed as Batman and Sergei dressed as Superman. But more importantly it had with it the Meerket Movies 2 for 1 cinema tickets, which depending on how often you go to the cinema can be a huge saving.
In the end I chose getting my insurance via comparethemarket for £219.46, a meerket toy and 2 for 1 cinema tickets. This was a saving of £223.77, yes I could have gotten it lower but the cinema tickets suited my wife and I more due to the amount of films we see and when we see them with a friend.
Insurance via Cashback
Some insurance companies can be found directly on cashback websites, so if you want to go in a different direction to what I did then you can visit each of them directly and get a quote, getting your cashback in that way. This way takes more time though.
Hopefully I have inspired you to deal with your car insurance in a slightly different way from now on.
