I am sure that many of my readers will have been to at least several car boot sales, if not then you should they can be quite fun. I am sure that you will have noticed for yourselves just how much it can fluctuate with prices that people will try to charge for items at a car boot sale, and even asked can location effect car boot prices?
Can location effect car boot prices
From what I have seen then it is yes, it can. Depending on the area or location of a car boot sale can greatly effect the pricing and even quality of items at a car boot sale.
There are several car boot sales near where I live, which my wife and I have both noticed a difference in the sorts of prices and even items you can get at them. Our two biggest are Skylark and Fordham. Skylark is close to the town of March, near Peterborough, and has in general low prices and a large deal more willingness to haggle. Fordham is close to Newmarket and Cambridge, and has in general average to higher prices with more bigger brands of item being sold. I think with these two car boots the effect is that Fordham is located in a generally more affluent area, whilst Skylark is further from this influence.
Even location within the car boot sale can matter
Seriously your location within the car boot sale can effect your prices at times. Close to the entrance if your prices are too high then people might just walk on or claim they will see how much they are left with only to never return (we use this when someone tries hard selling to us and we aren't interested or put off). At the other end of the entrance and most people will have run out of money by the time they reach you. Though this can vary depending on the car boot.
How does this effect you when selling?
It means you will have to do a little research into car boots near you. Which ones seem to sell items cheaper, which ones seem to have more hagglers at them and even looking at the quality of items or seeing how many traders come to the car boot. These can all give you an indication of the sort of things will work best and the general sort of prices will work best at the differing car boot sales. You should also try to find out when the best times to arrive will be for getting your location as this will effect your sales or prices. Though this can often only come from experience or asking those that are regular sellers at the car boot.
We would often end up with two different piles of car boot items, one for Skylark and one for Fordham. This was simply because at Skylark we could shift a large amount of items but it would be at cheaper prices and the amount of people willing to haggle is greater. When at Fordham we would sell less but generally it would be more money than we would make at Skylark, as people are more interested in paying more for better quality items.
How does this effect you when buying
There are various things that I have personally noticed from differing area car boot sales. At Fordham other than the higher prices we have noticed that there is a higher range of big brand items, especially in clothing. As a reseller that is very exciting because big brands often have better resell-ability. Skylark on the other hand we can often get a lot more for less, which can be brilliant when there is a big brand item. The downside is you might have to visit your car more often to not carry around a ton of bags getting heavier with every item!
