The 2016 Show me the Money Bloggers Conference

During the weekend I helped and attended the Show me the Money Bloggers conference and awards (SHOMOS) in London with my wife.

The event was organised by Andy Webb from Be Clever with your Cash, who also has been a major driving force in uniting the financial bloggers of the UK with the UK Money Bloggers website and facebook community. There was so much useful information spoken about and discussed by the guest speakers who included my wife from From Aldi to Harrods, Deepak Tailor from Latest Free Stuff (if sounds familiar he was on Dragon's Den and was speaking on what happened afterwards) and many others. I think the most interesting talk was the one over fair pay for bloggers to write sponsored posts, which seemed quite heated between those that charge higher amounts and those that would accept lower amounts, this one would have gone on easily I think for hours but had to be cut short.

My wife and I organised most of the items for the goodie bags for the guests. This means that my wife did the hunting and asking, I did the lugging of 55kg of stuff down to and across London, I was getting good workout from it at the very least, easily hit my 10,000 steps on my fitbit. Once the bags were made up, put out nicely though (I wanted them to look nice) and then seeing the faces and reactions of the people means that it was all worth it.

The awards were held towards the end of the event and was divided into 12 categories, with my wife nominated for 4 awards. She won two awards, Best Money Making Blog and Best Frugal and Thrift Blog, and was runner up for a third award, Best Money Blogger of the Year. I am incredibly proud of her, all the hard work she has poured into her blog really paid off.

I got to meet some amazing and inspirational bloggers during the even, and can truly see and appreciate how diverse the money blog field is, with how many of us there was yet still retain our own uniqueness. The event was really fun, interesting and informative. This has really inspired me to work harder towards my own blog and as such expect some changes around here but most importantly more posts as the ideas have just been over-flowing out of my head.

I hope that you have enjoyed and you look forward to a new and improved site.
